Recently I saw this picture posted on Facebook and initially I winced at it. I really don't find this funny. I mean, I guess I see why someone would think that it is funny. They think six kids is to many and 'clearly' the mom can't handle them if they're all screaming so let's imply that she should use birth control so she doesn't have any more. Hahaha....
But really, what I'm reading is this woman has six children and I don't know her story. She must have had a reason for taking them all to the store with her or else she wouldn't be there. She could be a widow and have no other choice but to have them there. You just don't know. And kids, they have bad days sometimes. They pick up on the feelings of their siblings. This mom is probably super overwhelmed and all she wants to do is get her shopping done. She didn't give a pep talk to her kids saying 'Make sure you scream as loud as you can in the store to make it look like I'm an awful person who can't keep their legs closed and that I need birth control advice from random strangers.' No matter how or why her kids came to be, no doubt their mom loves them all and is trying to provide for them. She's not intentionally trying to annoy other shoppers, she's just living her life just like everyone else. You have no idea what she's going through, her history or anything about her. You see her with, in your own opinion, is 'too many kids' and you judge. Shame on you. Seriously. All life is precious. Instead of trying to be snarky and judgemental, next time you experience something like this try to look at the situation with compassion instead. As a mother I would probably offer some help to her or at least just give her a knowing smile. Granted I only have two children so I don't know exactly how she feels but I know that kids are hard no matter how many you have. It's hurtful for you to think that she needs condoms because you've seen her on a bad day.
I know these silly pictures are all over the internet and they're supposed to be funny but some of them really are just unnecessary. This being one of them.
Very well put :)
ReplyDeleteThe ins and outs; whys and becauses are really no one's concern.
I have 3 kiddos of my own and often times have my neice, nephew and little cousin with me because they love to spend time together and I'm the fun auntie - it's amazing the looks I get when I have all 6-7 together especially since they all favor one another enough to pass as siblings (they range from 9 months to 11 years old).
Good point! It's amazing how strangers jump to conclusions and judge so harshly when they don't even know the background story.
