I have put off writing this post approximately a dozen times now. I keep putting it off though because I'm afraid of pissing some people off. However, my frustration has finally come to a head and I need to get this off my chest.
Car Seats. You all know how I feel about them, it's no secret. I am all about car seat safety. I realize that not everyone can or wants to be as cautious in the car as I am. But it irritates me when people come up with stupid excuses as to why they don't keep their kids as safe as they can. A simple 'I chose not to' is good enough for me. I don't want to hear that 'they were uncomfortable' or 'they wanted to be able to see' bullshit. Other popular ones 'their legs were to long' or 'I never even had a car seat and I turned out fine.' Also, if you took two seconds to research decent seats I wouldn't have to hear 'they were to big'.
Seriously people, we all make choices. And I support choices. If you want to choose to not rear-face your kid past one, fine whatever. Own it. Don't make up stupid excuses to make yourself feel better about it. If you flat out don't know WHY you should rear-face past a year than you need to do some research so that you can make an informed decision.
That being said, I will respect your choices and try not to knock them but I will (inwardly) shake my head at you and think that it's a shame you didn't try just a little harder. I think that every single person is more than capable to rear-face their child until at least two if they were just willing to put in the research and the money to do so. It's amazing that people will spend so much money on clothes, toys or other crap for their kids but when it comes to car seats you want the cheapest one you can find. Or, even if someone buys a decent seat, they don't use it to it's fullest capacity instead giving some shotty excuse like the ones above. There are dozens of them and I've heard them all. I think they are all complete and utter bullshit. Point blank. Do what you want, I won't think you're a terrible mom, a terrible person or anything like that. I will think that you could do better for your kids but they are just that, your kids. Not mine.
I choose to keep my kids as safe as possible for as long as possible. That is my choice. You can make yours.

This goes for any parenting decision. Breastfeeding, circumcision, vaccines, whatever. Choose what you want, but inform yourself of both sides and make an informed choice. Own you choices. Be confident with your life. Be happy. Quit being douchey assholes and making the people who make different choices than you feel like crap.
