My dream nursery theme

If I were planning a nursery right now, which unfortunately I'm not, Adam and I decided that we'd like a red and black pirate theme for our son. It's different, bold and very us. It's not a 'baby' theme and yet, you can find so much that would go with it. I thought today it would be fun to show you some of the things I've found that I adore. This post will be very picture heavy and also, not all the items are for decorating the nursery, but also the baby or baby shower.

I think a nursery like this would be absolutely adorable! Some people have been telling me it's to 'scary' for a baby though. Personally, I think the nursery is for the mom and not the baby in reality. A baby doesn't care what color or theme its nursery is. It doesn't care if it's decorated with butterflies or bubbles. Only the parent will care and when the kid is older, they can decide for themselves what they want their room decorated with. What do you think?

  1. Honestly I didn't think I would like this theme until I saw it all together with all the cool stuff and now I think it is AWESOME and very original. Surrender Yer Booby...LMAO.

  3. I agree, the nursery is more for mom not baby. Mom, dad and baby are the ones who will be using the nursery. Who cares what anyone else thinks? You like it, Adam likes it. Do it! Besides, they say that black, white and red are good, stimulating colors for babies, right?!? I personally love it. I love all the things you have found. I don't think any of it is "scary". I absolutely LOVE the onesie! "Surrender Yer boobie" =)

  6. Haha, I think it's darling! And, aren't babies supposed to respond better to black and white contrasts as their vision is first developing? I once knit one of my girlfriends a skull and crossbones sweater for her new baby - she said she got some funny looks, but we both thought it was pretty cute ;)

  7. I think it's great to do something different - we have a very non-traditional, red/black/white nursery for SJ, too! (Too bad the Dawgs football team was horrible this year - oh, well! He's too young to be embarrassed of his own nursery.) I think this nursery actually has a lot of little kid appeal, too. I bet a lot of boys would love a pirate room, so you might be able to reuse a lot of things as he gets older.

  8. Do it! I would paint the walls a clear blue and then do the red and black in fabrics and accessories. That way you don't have to paint again later. Very cute theme!
