Last Wednesday I took Maverick in for his yearly checkup. It was about as exciting as Miranda and Elliott's did a while back...
So, yes, my dog is healthy. He weighs 59.5lbs and he didn't even need his rabies or distemper shots. Those aren't due for another couple *years*. Awesome!! I did buy him some preventative medicine though. Normal heart worm and flea/tick stuff.
This is seriously my least favorite part of pet ownership. I do it, because I should, but I hate it. If it wasn't the law and all that and good for the dog I seriously would not take him to the vet. Such a money suck! I hate it. I know my dog. I know what a healthy animal looks like. The vet came in looked at Maverick's eyes, ears, teeth, listened to his heart for two seconds, gave him his two shots and left. Seriously...I paid how much for THAT?!?
I'm sure that if I had uber amounts of readers I'd be upsetting some of them right now, but I don't. So, I guess it's okay.
Anyway, if you are reading this, please ... comment and tell me what do you think about yearly vet visits? I know why they are necessary so don't lecture me unless you feel the need. I'm just curious how other pet owners feel about them. Thanks!
I feel they are a good idea just so you know there defiantly in good health!! :) How dare you make this blog! Just kidding! Love - Duval Mom!! <3
ReplyDeleteI guess. I do them regardless of how I feel about them, but I hate it the whole time.
DeleteRabies and distemper shots are important if your pet is in contact with other animals but I generally don't bother with visits in between unless something needs to be addressed. I agree that if you are a seasoned pet owner you will know when something is wrong. If you a new pet owner regular check ups probably aren't a bad idea until you get the hang of what healthy and not looks like.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree and you can get cheaper shots at pet stores and what not too. Plus I get him his license too since he runs away a lot. That way if the dog catchers pick him up he'll be returned. Hopefully.
DeleteThanks Jenners!!
I take my two dogs to petco for their yearly shots n check up..... For two of them it was $110..... And I was always told by vets rabies is a yearly shot..... Something required by the state for licensing???? Just a question lol
ReplyDeleteMaverick received a rabies shot that is good for three years. :)
