Four Months!

08.15.2011.010

My Elliott turned 4 months old! How in the world is he already 4 months old? This is crazy! Time is going WAY to fast!

GROWTH:
Yesterday he had his four month appointment. Here are his stats:

Birth: 5lbs 15oz; 18.5 inches
2 months: 11lbs 3oz; 23.25 inches
4 months: 13lbs 15oz; 25 inches

So he gained 2lbs 12oz in 2 months and grew an inch and 3/4.

EATING:
I guess it's an obvious thing by now, but we nurse on demand and exclusively still. He's getting better at not taking forever to eat and he's starting to last a lot longer between feedings. In the mornings he usually eats pretty frequently and sometimes for long periods of time, but really who can blame him? (See his sleeping pattern.) We nurse in public still all the time, uncovered. I have yet to have anyone say anything to me about it, which is good. I will usually at least try to find a quiet corner and not feed him in the middle of a crowd but that's only because he's starting to get a little distracted while he eats and because I respect the fact that breastfeeding does make some people uncomfortable. I don't agree with it, but I respect it. I love that I am able to nourish him with my body and I find that breastfeeding is really the ultimate on-the-go way to feed. It's always ready, can't forget it and I don't need to buy anything for it. It's awesome!

SLEEPING:
Elliott is an amazing sleeper. He falls asleep every night somewhere between 9:00pm and 10:00pm. I have to nurse him to sleep in the rocking chair, but once he's conked out for the night, he's out until at least 6:00am. Today he slept until 7:30am! It was amazing. During the day he takes a few naps, but the number and length of them vary. He could take a bunch of cat naps all day, or he could take 2 or even 3 longer naps or a mixture of the two. It depends on what's going on, where we are and all of that. He's pretty easy-going though although between the hours of 6 and 9 he has the potential to be a little crank-pot. I call it his witching time although tonight he's happily snoozing away on his Auntie for his last nap of the day.

ACTIVITY / MILESTONES:
He rolls from belly-to-back really easily and without any issues. He's working very hard on being able to go from back-to-belly however. He is almost there! I know I said that last month and it surprises me that he's not there yet. Pretty soon though and I'm okay with him not rushing it. He loves to lay on his belly and look around at the world around him. He also loves to lay on his back to swat at the toys on his toy bar. He grabs things now and brings them to his mouth which is pretty neat to watch. He's a drooling machine nowadays and wants to chew on everything!! He really loves his jingle lion and his crinkly elephant toys the best. Crinkly elephant lives with his car seat and is his car entertainment. He still kicks like crazy all the time and can scoot himself forward a couple inches when he's on his belly sometimes.
Oh, and also, he laughs now! It's probably the cutest sound ever.

CLOTHING:
I've put away all his 0-3 month clothes. He's fitting really well into most of his 3-6 month stuff. Some items are already a little snug, like Children's Place zip pj's. I really need to get him some winter clothing though because we do not have very much in that department. I haven't tried him in any 6-9 month items yet but I'm really hoping they wouldn't fit him yet. A lot of his 3-6 month clothes are still a little to big anyway.

As far as diapers go, he has already graduated to size 3's. I bought ONE box of size 2's before he moved up. Crazyness.

See him at one week, one month, two months and three months
