Flats Challenge Day Three

Open Topic!

So today is open topic day and I'm not really sure what to write about. So far I have done three loads of handwashing and used about a dozen flats. I went through a few folds before I finally settled on one that I like the best. I started out using the diaper bag fold, then moved on to the origami fold and tried a few padfolds and now I'm settled on the jo fold.

I have to say, I do miss my pockets. I stripped every single one the other day and yesterday I stuffed them all and put them away until the end of the challenge. I longed to put one on my son instead of having to fold, snappi and cover. However, using flats isn't terribly difficult. It definitely surprises me how absorbent these thin pieces of cloth are when folded properly. I can see why they would be cheap, convenient and easy to use and clean for someone who needed them. I can see why people stick with them after the challenge. However, I miss my pockets dearly. I really miss using my washing machine! I would write more about hand-washing ... but that's tomorrow's prompt.

I will say however, that I haven't had to change a flat out in public yet. If I did, I'd probably just prefold it into the cover so it would be a quick easy change just like using a prefold. I love line drying my diapers and I do so even when I am allowed to use my dryer.

On the DDL blog today she wrote about EC'ing. I have a cousin who used and is using EC'ing with great success but it just isn't my cup of tea. However, after reading the post and agreeing that handwashing SUCKS, I'm letting Elliott run around the house without a diaper on. Not because I'm terribly anxious about potty training but because I want less diapers in that bucket. Monday and Tuesday he spent a good amount of time outside in a swim diaper which means less diapers to wash as well.

So, we will see how it goes. Here is a picture of a folded diaper and with it on Elliott:

And here is my whole stash, stripped & stuffed. Beautiful!
