Budgeting ...

Okay, so after going through one month of being in our own house, I am starting to realize that we need to budget things a little more tightly around here. So ... I'm going to be using coupons a lot more, I'm going to plan meals, we're going to stop eating out (when possible...Adam travels a lot so that will be difficult for him) and we're going to try and stock up and save when we can.

Pinterest and Google have been huge helpers as well as friends and family. I couldn't do this without them. I really need to get Adam on board, especially with meal plans and coupons since he does almost all of the cooking (except when he's not here) and he does at least half of the grocery shopping.

Wish me luck! I figured I'd be able to post a weekly update on how this is going and that will help keep me motivated as well as help with my 365 Challenge! So, keep an eye out for next Thursday to see how we are doing so far.

Also, any tips, suggestions or advice is always welcome!

  1. Best of luck to you!!! Getting your husband on board would be a huge help and make things easier. We just finished up year 1 in our own home and sticking to a strict budget has been a life-saver (especially since we bought a home and had baby #3 within 3 months of each other...YIKES!)

Communication is definitely a must! Planning out bills and expenses, cutting back what can be cut back, etc will all help in the long run.

    1. Yes, my husband and I have always been pretty good at communicating. Hopefully we will be able to come to an agreement on all of this too.

  2. There's lots of good advice out there. I've been there and done that. I still try to be as frugal as I can. When I retire in two years, I will continue to be careful. My husband once said he would know when money was okay when he could go into a grocery store, buy what he wanted, and not worry about the prices. He can do that when we go to Winco, not so much at Safeway.

    1. Yeah, that's what I want someday too. Freedom. However, for now, we must pinch pennies and scrape by. Congratulations on your upcoming retirement!
