A new blog that I just recently discovered, CT Working Moms, started these threads by their bloggers called "This is me." I was so inspired by them that I thought I'd write one of my own! Go check out theirs before you read mine though!
1. I breastfed both of my children for different amounts of times. Miranda was only for six weeks and Elliott was for nine months. I love breastfeeding however, and should I have any more children, I will breastfeed again. I do not have anything against formula though. Both of my children have had it.
2. I am not able to have a 'birth plan' of any sort. When Quinne was born, I had an emergency c-section which made it impossible for me to have any children naturally. So, I just go with the flow and do what my doctors tell me to.
3. Although, if I could go naturally, I would probably do as much laboring at home as possible before going to the hospital. In an ideal world, I would consider a home birth. It sounds peaceful and amazing.
4. I sleep train my kids after six months. I do a modified cry-it-out and so far, both of my kids are awesome sleepers who sleep through the night well before they are a year old.
5. I love extended rear-facing! Miranda was rear-facing until she was three years old and Elliott will rear-face at least that long. At five years old, Miranda still rides very happily in a five point harness in my car.
6. I love being a stay at home mother. Miranda only went to daycare for a short period of time and it was to my neighbor whom I loved and trusted. I would never send her to a 'facility' type daycare. Nor will I send any of my kids to a big daycare center.
7. Both of my kids were and are pacifier addicts. I took Miranda's away when she was two and a half, and now she sucks her thumb. Elliott only gets his when he's in his crib or car seat and I'll probably let him have it as long as he needs it.
8. I let my babies sleep in my room as necessary but not in my bed. Only in a pack and play. Miranda has crawled into bed with us a handful of times but she never lasts the night there. I put her back because I can't sleep with her in the bed.
9. I use disposable diapers. I can not make the change to cloth even though I have had the desire to. Change is hard.
10. I stop with the baby food by the time my kids can pick up the food and bring it their mouth. Neither of them are picky eaters and eat veggies like champs!
11. I am all for vaccinating my kids!
12. I give my kids peanut butter by the time they are nine months old. Neither of them are allergic to anything.
13. Miranda had regular cloth bumpers, Elliott has the mesh ones. I let them sleep on their bellies since birth pretty much, although Miranda liked to be swaddled until she was six months old. I was never really nervous about SIDS, they slept great on their stomachs and it helps their core muscles.
14. I love leaving my kids overnight. They have both been over for sleepovers before they were one.
15. I don't think any mother is perfect or 'has it all figured out'. I think we are all just doing the best we can with the information we have and we all do what is right for our family.
16. I like to read parenting books. They comfort me to a degree.
17. I'm very picky about pediatricians. I've switched at least once a year for both my kids because I wasn't truly satisfied.
18. I did not have Elliott circumcised.
19. I'm pretty laid back about most things when it comes to parenting. I'm not a germ-a-phobe by any means. I let my kids play in the dirt, get messy, take out all their toys, I still stick the paci back in my son's mouth if it falls on the floor (yes, even in public). I find myself not worrying about things that I see most other mother's worry about. And I think it's okay to feel either way!
20. I've tried multiple kinds of discipline including spanking, time outs and taking privileges away. I'm still figuring this one out.

(Elliott was being cranky and clingy so this is the best I could do. Thank you iPhone and Instagram!)
And, for all these imperfections, I think I have some pretty awesome kids. Thank you CT Working Moms for such an inspirational post idea!

You and I have a lot of similarities! I had an emergancy c with my first after pushing for 4 hours and so had to have c's with all the rest as I tore internally. So definitely wasn't my plan but just grateful could still have kids
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm very grateful I can still have children, indeed. Sorry to hear about your emergency c-section.
