Of Judgement and Education

DSC_0008

I know it may not seem like it to some but I try very hard not to *judge* other parents. Obviously though, sometimes a quick judgement pops through my head when I first see something that I either disagree with or don't understand. I'm human, we all do it. However, I try very hard to take a step back after that quick thought. I try to remind myself that they aren't me and that they are a completely different person in a completely different situation. They have made a different parenting choice than me and that's OKAY!

I honestly do not care what choices another parent makes.
Breastfeeding vs. Formula.
Co-sleeping vs. CIO.
Cloth vs. Disposables.
Circumcision vs. Intact.
Pacifiers vs. Thumb (vs. Neither)
Organic vs. McDonalds.
Television vs. Books.
Time Outs vs. Spanking.
Vaccinating vs. Not.

The only thing I would hope that most parents do is to at least do a little research of both sides.
Know why you are making the choice you are making.

If you are a friend of mine on Facebook, then you know that I share a ton of links on my Wall. This is not because I'm judging people who do things differently. It's not me trying to force my views on anyone else.

It is because it is an article, a blog or some other type of information that I found interesting. Something that backs up how I feel about the decisions I've made about raising my children. I share it because I think that it could be helpful to someone who will read it. I think it's informative. I may not agree with every single point of it, but I enjoyed the piece nonetheless. That's why I posted it on my wall.

I once read a blog post from The Good Letdown called "Facebook Walls Are Not People" that pretty much sums up exactly how I feel. I greatly recommend you take the few seconds it will take and read that post.

Tomorrow I will be posting another entry about Elliott and sleeping. This post and that post are greatly connected! Make sure you come back tomorrow to find out why!
