Two Month Appointment

06.12.2011.004

Elliott's two moth appointment was this morning. There was a little bit of a wait, but that was okay. I was entertained watching a pair of four year old twin girls and their two year old little brother. They were so cute, happy and playful, especially since they were there for a sick visit.

Soon it was our turn and the nurse and doc did their thing. He gained over 3lbs and grew 2 inches in a month! The office staff was amazed at how fast he's growing. They all love to hold him and give him lots of attention when we go. The pediatrician looked him over and was very happy with how healthy he is. He's hitting all his required milestones and doing everything that a two month old baby should be doing.

Then the bad part came and they had to give him his vaccinations. He had to get two in each leg and one oral one. He cried, of course, but I nursed him right after and he seemed fine. Nicole, the kids and I all went out to breakfast afterwords and he slept through the meal. I nursed him after our meal was done and we had to run a few errands. When we landed ourselves at Target a couple of hours later, he decided to go into an absolute frenzy! He was screaming bloody murder and nothing was working to soothe him. I tried nursing, he cried. I tried burping, he let out two really good burps ... and then cried. I carried him around the store thinking the movement and what-not would soothe him, but no ... he cried. We left the store after that and I tried nursing him in the car. He calmed down for a little while but anytime I went to move him, guess what? He cried. Eventually I just put him in his car seat anyway. We couldn't sit in the Target parking lot forever and I just wanted to get him home where everyone would be more comfortable.

Luckily he was calm and quiet the whole way back. When we got home, however, he went right back to throwing a screaming fit. I felt terrible! I gave him some pain reliever and tried to calm him down. Adam took him from me for a little while to give me a break and he ended up falling asleep. Poor thing. He took a 45 minute nap, woke up cranky again so I nursed him and he went right back to sleep.

Right after Miranda was asleep, he woke up and stayed awake until 9:30! At least this time he didn't cry, he was just happy to be awake. He smiled at me and we played and I talked to him. It was so nice to see him back to normal. He got a bath and his lotion massage and now he's in the pack 'n play, sound asleep. Let us hope the vaccines do not mess with his night time sleep.

  2. not sure how that text in the middle got there. I was writing to a girl who had a baby and makes alternative hospital gowns.

Oh well, the other two paragraphs were meant for you and only you. Take care of that little bundle of beauty. Keri
