The Really Bad Idea

Lately it's been way too hot here with temperatures in the high 90's and low 100's!! Yikes! So after a long holiday weekend including but not limited to: fun, excitement, long days, no naps, swimming, sun, family, friends, and a night spent at Grammy's, I decided it would be a GREAT idea to head to a local amusement park with a water park to cool off in the heat. It was a spur decision so we didn't even leave the house until about 10:30 or  so. Got there around 11 which was way too close to lunch & nap. We paid admission and went to try out a few rides. Miranda did really well with them, but we were hot so we headed to the water area. Miranda started to turn into the dreaded 'Hollywood' at this point (that's what Grammy & Papa call her when she's being whiny, cranky and dramatic). She wanted nothing to do with the water park. So we tried for about 10 minutes before moving on. There is a lake there to swim in, so we tried that out. She was more willing to do that, until she saw the roller coaster. Then she wanted to ride that, so we went on that (thought I was going to die) and she pretty much yawned her way through it, lol. We were hungry and dieing of thirst at this point so we stopped for lunch. That helped slightly, but we were still incredibly hot so after a bathroom break, we headed back to the water park. Hollywood had HAD it at this point. As Nicole and I were trying to get cool in the water, Miranda decided she was going to walk away from us. When I told her she had to stay with us for her safety, she lost it. Hollywood screamed. Bloody murder. In my face. A few times. I calmly waited for her to be done, then we went straight to the car. I knew she was just too hot, tired and over-stimulated at this point and it was time to call it quits. She fell asleep the moment the car started moving.

When we got home, I decided it was still too hot and I wanted to go swimming still and I wanted the dog to be able to come too. So we headed to the river. Another bad idea. We had to walk very far to find a good open beach and the bottom was too rocky to enjoy and Hollywood was still present at this point. Tired, dirty, hot, sweaty and carrying heavy, dirty towels we admitted defeat a second time and headed home.

We ended the day at Grammy's house swimming in the nice, clean pool and having a delicious filling dinner. We tried to compromise with the A/C last night and left both bedroom doors open with fans blowing the cool air into Miranda's room but that didn't go over well. Miranda was still awake at 10:30 when Adam and I went to bed. I have no idea when she fell asleep, but at least she slept until shortly after 9 this morning.
The end of a really bad idea.
