Such a sensitive soul

Last night Miranda did the FUNNIEST and SADDEST thing I have ever seen. I really wish I had had the camera handy. I was letting her watch Disney Earth because I had previewed it the night before. It does show animals hunting but I didn't think any of it was any worse than a Discovery Channel documentary so I decided it would be okay for her to see. Well, the elephants came on and she was LOVING the elephants. Then the lions came and she was having a blast going from "RARRR!" to "PBHHT!" for the animal noises. When night time falls the lions start going after the elephants. This proved to be too much for my little baby. She watched intently, her face falling and I could see the fear in her face. She runs up to me yelling "The Elephants CRYING!" She turns back to the TV and starts getting very concerned. A lion jumps up onto the elephants back, she RUNS to the TV and starts hitting the lion with all her might yelling "GET OFF! GET OFF! GET OFF!" The elephant runs off into the tall grass and the scene switches to the morning sun rise. It didn't show any blood or the actual killing or eating or anything like that. She starts crying and lipping and runs up to me to be comforted. I scooped her up and tried to explain to her that the lions have to eat and it's just the way of nature but she was still very sad for the poor elephant for a long time afterwords. Needless to say, we shut it off after that. Poor thing. It really goes to show you that they understand way more than you give them credit for.
