Flats Challenge Day Five

What is working for me? What isn't?

Well the one thing that stands out to me as NOT working for me is the weather!! It has been raining and cloudy every single day since I started this challenge with 90% humidity!!! Holy cow, that makes drying these diapers next to impossible. And when I only have 12 diapers to work with, it gets kind of stressful when they are drying up until the very last minute!! Last night I washed six flats and they are still very, very wet this morning. And I can't hang them outside because it's raining! I might have to break out my iron for the first time during this challenge. The weather makes me want to quit and go back to my pockets and fancy machines!

As for what is working for me, I like how short washing the diapers is. When I do use my washing machine, I'm pretty sure it uses way more water and I know for a fact that it takes a lot longer. I'm done from start to finish washing the diapers in a half an hour, plus I feel like I received a great arm workout. My washing machine has to go through a cold rinse, a super long hot wash and two more cold rinses. That takes at least 2 hours if I stay on top of the cycles. Drying time is obviously taking a lot longer for the handwashing but if Mother Nature had cooperated it would be comparable.

The flats themselves are working fine for me as well. They absorb well and wash well. I'm really surprised by their functionality. My husband even put them on our son yesterday for the first time since he was working away and he can do them easily enough. We haven't had any leaks or any issues with the flats or covers themselves.

I am certainly excited for the week to end though and thoughts of quitting are floating through my head....
