Snips and Snails and Puppy Dog Tails

I haven't blogged about our faithful, family companion, Maverick, in quite a while. When he was a puppy I used to blog about him quite a bit, or at least show a picture of him once a week. He's almost two years old now and he's starting to turn into a fantastic pet! He is so protective, so loyal and so loving of everyone in the family.

He is especially fond of Elliott. When we're home, he's usually never far from where the baby is. If Elliott makes a peep, whether it be a sneeze or a cry, Maverick is almost always the first one to see what's up. He licks Elliott's face, just a little bit to much.

At dinner, there was an accident. I want to preface this with nobody was hurt! Elliott was sitting in a booster seat at the table. There was mashed potatoes and veggies everywhere. Maverick snuck over to the table to 'help' with clean-up. Well, since we were over the in-laws, he still had his prong collar on. I told Maverick to go lie down as I often do, only something terrible happened. His prong collar was stuck on the tray of Elliott's chair! As the dog tried to step away, he was taking my baby with him! The chair tipped over but never completely fell onto the ground. My mother in law grabbed the chair, Adam grabbed the dog and I grabbed the baby. I got him out of that chair as fast as I could and held him. He never once cried. He wasn't hurt. The dog didn't mean it. I started crying a bit, just because it scared me so much! Elliott could have been injured! Elliott looked a little confused and maybe slightly scared but he was otherwise fine. It upset Miranda a lot too to see her brother almost fall to floor, but after a giant group hug, everyone felt much better.

The moral of the story is this: always take your dog's prong collars off when inside the house.
