Last week I talked to Elliott's doctor about his test results. We received some good news and some undetermined news.
First the good news. His bilirubin level is on its way down now, which is awesome news. He'll still be slightly jaundiced for a little while longer, but the doctors no longer have any reason to be concerned about it at all. Hurray! I'm very, very glad I stuck my ground with breastfeeding and didn't give in to the doctor's request to give formula. While I'm sure it wouldn't have been the end of the world by any means, I just didn't want to do it. I'm really happy with how nursing is going this time around and didn't want to have to overcome nipple confusion that early in the game. So, happy news there!
The other news is that his tyrosine level (an amino acid) still came back slightly elevated. Since (for some reason) his pediatrician doesn't know what his level had come back as before, he has no idea whether or not this was an improvement or not. The doctor seems to believe that it isn't anything to be concerned about yet but he would like us to go back to the lab and get his blood drawn again to find out if his liver is working properly or not. Adam and I had the intentions to get it done yesterday but it wasn't in the cards. Hopefully today will be better accommodating to get out there.
So, no real worries yet, but please continue to pray that all is well with my little man. Thanks!
Congratulations on your new bundle. Your daughter is beautiful. It is so wonderful that science can give us some moments we might not have otherwise had. I am sorry for your loss and glad that you reckon the life of your first daughter. So much more real than saying you only have 2.
