Socks are incredible toys, if you think about it. They can be the obvious: puppet, duster and shocker of friends, or they can be something more ominous.
Animal Torturer.
No, you don't need to go calling animal control on me or anything like that. It's harmless torture and hurts mainly their ego.
One day, a few years ago (pre-child days) Adam noticed he had a hole in his socks. A normal person would have just thrown their socks away and that would have been the end of that. But, Adam is far from normal. He decided to play with his holey sock. We had our Yorkie, Paprika, back then and she is extremely tolerant of many situations. So, he decided to see if she could fit into his sock. First he just put the whole sock over her head. That was comical as we watched her try to get it off. Then he cut out a head hole and leg holes and slipped the whole sock over her body. Surprisingly, she fit! She looked ridiculous though, almost like she was wearing a unitard. So, Adam decided to turn his other sock into a cape for her. We called her "Socko the Wonder Dog"! It was hysterical. I wish I had taken a picture because it was priceless! He picked her up and flew her around the room. It was way more fun than it should have been.
So, since that day, we've decided to see how all our animals react to having a sock over their head. (There will only be one Socko though.) Our cat, Dunkin, is particularly funny about it. If you put a sock over his head, he will NOT move. At all. He is completely subdued. It's pretty funny to watch. You can pick him up, poke him, do just about anything to him and he will not budge. Maverick, runs around the house shaking his head, bumping into things trying to get it off. Also, pretty comical.
The socks never stay on their heads for more than a minute or so. We make sure they can breathe and always supervise to make sure they don't hurt themselves. It's harmless fun.

I LOVE this. It sounds SO like something my husband would do. We used to have a little lab mix and he would take his sock and put a piece of hotdog or bologna in the end of it and then stick the sock over the dogs nose and secure it with a rubber band and then watch the dog go crazy trying to get to the end of the sock. He called it her "elephant imitation" becaue it looked like an elephant's trunk. HILARIOUS. I wish I'd had a video camera WAY back then!

Well, this is a great tool to use if you ever need to take your cat on a plane. Too funny!
ReplyDeleteToo cute! I don't think a sock would fit on my basset hound, but we've dressed her up before and she never tries to take the clothes off!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog :)
"Socko the Wonder Dog" --- too funny! I could so see us doing that before kids, but not now that we are so much more, ahem, mature. Now if you'll excuse me I am off to find a sock, an unsuspecting dog and a camera...
ReplyDeleteBTW, thanks for "visiting" my blog!
I guess the closest I ever came to this is to try and put those Dog Booties on in the winter time. Still to this day I can't figure out how to keep them on his paws.
ReplyDeleteSock puppets are the best. I even gave two away to a friend who used them in his play that he was directing.
Dogs in unitards would put a smile on my face any day! When our cocker was little, we got him a puppy-sizes sweatshirt. And as he got too big for it, but we put it on him just for fun, we'd sing the "Fat Guy in a Little Coat" song from Chris Farley/SNL days!
ReplyDeleteSocko....HAHAHAHA that is hilarious! I wish I could have seen a pic of that!
ReplyDeleteLOL, how funny that the cat does not move with the sock in the headm there must be some power there. Socko sound an adorable dog.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by.
This post is really funny! I love that your husband even went to the lengths to make a cape for Socko. And lucky you found out about Dunkin, because maybe the sock might have to go on in an emergency, just to keep him subdued. All in all, great post!

This sounds like something we might do to our animals...and then not tell anyone. :) Love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting me. You have a very precious blog!
