Today we took Maverick back to the vet for his 16 week appointment. Adam made sure he was good and tired by taking him for a bike ride before hand. It didn't really work though. Maverick strolled in to the place like he owned it and continued to jump on everyone like they were his best friend. He got even crazier when the treats were brought out. He's extremely motivated and excited by food. He weighs 25 pounds now! That's a weight gain of 7 pounds in 3 weeks. I asked how big they thought he would get and they said somewhere around 50 pounds. Usually you can double a puppies weight at 4 months old and that's approximately how much they'll weigh as an adult. I'm guessing he'll get up to 60 lbs but I guess we'll have to wait and see. All in all, he's healthy and friendly. We asked the vet to write us a letter for our landlord to prove that he's a friendly dog and not a danger to anyone. He received the last of his Distemper combo boosters and we got him the Lyme vaccine as well as kennel cough. So, now we have the green light to take him anywhere and get him socialized with as many other dogs as possible. Yay! That's what I was waiting for. I can't wait to get him out to dog parks, obedience classes and possibly even doggy daycare.
All in all, a good appointment. We have to bring him back May 7th for the second dose of his Lyme vaccine and then he can be neutered at six months old. Then we'll be done until he needs updates on his shots. :)
