The other day, I had the opportunity to stop at the library for a short time. Miranda and I hadn't been there in quite some time and we missed it very much. It is such a great place to bring kids. Very wholesome and full of knowledge. Miranda was ECSTATIC to be there. She adores being at the library. We always come home with a handful of books to read when we get home.
This particular trip had my heart melting! Miranda happened to run into a little girl who was probably, right around the same age as her. They clicked immediately. It was amazing to see how quickly my child opens up her heart to others so easily. They started by playing puppets together. Miranda had a triceratops that she was calling a rhinoceros. The other little girl (I'll call her Emma to protect her identity) had a butterfly. The butterfly was going after the 'rhino' and Miranda took it all in stride. She bolted across the circle and crawled under the chair. Emma chased her down and the giggles were so cute it was hard to stand. They then took turns chasing each other around the puppet area and shrieking 'You found me' when the other poked their head under the chair. They played a few rounds of 'Ring Around the Rosie' and they just could not get enough of each other.
Towards the end of our visit, Miranda tripped a bit while the two of them were holding hands and hit her head on the wall. She started crying immediately and Emma was so concerned! She knelt next to Miranda and was patting her shoulder and she looked almost in tears herself at seeing her friend in pain. I went over and offered my comforting arms to my baby. After she had calmed down, I had her go back over to Emma (who was hiding behind the puppet theater) to tell her that all was well and that they could continue playing now. Miranda went behind the theater for some time and it was quiet for a few minutes. I could only imagine the conversation they were having. It wasn't too much longer before a new batch of giggles started up.
The best part of it all though, was towards the end of our visit, they were lying under one of the chairs telling each other that they were best friends. It was so pure, so innocent, so heartfelt. Amazing.
So, thank you Emma, wherever you are for being my daughter's best friend for the morning.
That made my heart happy, Anjie. Are kids the best? I wish grown women could be so open and welcoming to each other.
